WERK modular kitchen
Freestanding modular kitchen: the workshop for kitchen craftsmen
Cooking is a craft. And what would a craft be without a workshop? Welcome to the free-standing WERK modular kitchen: it organises your tools within easy reach at all times and combines imaginative storage space with functional work surfaces. Above all, however, it impresses with a design that functions like a workshop but feels like a living space.
For the place where you love to cook for your life.
Because this workshop is also your home, you design the free-standing modular kitchen according to your own ideas. You can choose either a natural kitchen front made of real oak, real ash or linoleum to go with the powder-coated steel frames. Or for material purists, the free-standing modular kitchen is also available with graphite black or agate grey steel fronts. The worktops made of hot-rolled stainless steel or ceramic are for everyday use, extremely hard-wearing and easy to clean.
What does free-standing modular kitchen mean?
Free initially means: detached from static walls – you place the kitchen exactly where you want to do your culinary homework in the future. But free also means: freely configurable. The five modules – wall module, high module, island module, combi module and shelf module – can be customised to create your dream kitchen. Jan Cray himself once described the concept as the “alternative to the fitted kitchen”. Fits well – but it’s not the only title: The German Design Council has presented the WERK modular kitchen with the GERMAN DESIGN AWARD.
Wall module
Design that flatters every wall
The classic kitchen unit on the wall. You configure your wall module according to your taste and space requirements. The flexible module divider allows you to reassemble your kitchen in a different configuration. And the magnetically attached towel rail is just as flexible as the herb box: both can be positioned exactly where your cooking session is taking place.
High module
Plenty of storage space means plenty of room for your ideas
You configure your high module according to your individual requirements. It is free-standing and offers you a lot of freedom. For example, it works just as well as a room divider as it does as a pantry. The oven, wine cooler or steam cooker can be raised to working height, and the dishwasher is integrated at a back-friendly height.
Island module
Where else can you design an island yourself
The free-standing cooking island is available in 3 depths:
- Single depth with carcasses on one side
- Double depth with carcasses on both sides
- 1.5x depth with carcases on one side and seating/shelving on the rear side
Combi module
Cleverly combined
The practical combination of wall module and high module. The kitchen gets a new location? No problem: the flexible module divider makes it possible to reassemble your kitchen in a different configuration. Wall module or high module can then be set up individually. Your furniture is flexible – you don’t have to be: Because the oven, wine cooler or steam cooker are positioned at a comfortable working height in the high module and the dishwasher can be integrated at a back-friendly height.
Shelf module
Clear expression for organised impression
The shelf module is available in two versions. As a version with cupboard doors, the shelf module is reminiscent of a buffet cabinet. The completely open shelf provides a clear view of plates, cups, etc. The shelves are individually height-adjustable.
High-quality and elegant: worktops made of stainless steel or ceramic
Worktop
Hot-rolled, seamless moulded
The 4 mm thick stainless steel comes straight from the steel roller into your kitchen. Its industrial character is clearly visible: the traces of manufacturing are visible and the material is impressive in its purity, such as the seamlessly welded basin and the upstand of the wiping strip. The same quality as the professionals, but with a much more sophisticated look than the stainless steel kitchens used in the catering trade.
The matt surface scores with particularly robust properties such as acid resistance and food safety. Even a hot pot does not harm the surface. It absorbs the traces of your work, acquires a beautiful patina and thus becomes a contemporary witness to your cookery skills.
Worktop
Robustly fired, used without a trace
The 12 mm thick ceramic surface has been through fire for you: In the kiln, the already robust natural material has increased its resistance even further. The ceramic worktop is absolutely cut and scratch-resistant, acid-resistant and food-safe. The surfaces can be cleaned easily and hygienically after the work is done. And the ceramic leaves no trace in nature either: the product is completely recyclable.
Front made of steel? Front made of wood? Or a front made of linoleum?
Only you can answer this question. But how? All three fronts combine excellent properties such as durability, clear design and high-quality workmanship. Need some help making a decision? We will be happy to give you more details about the individual materials.

A breath of fresh air, not just in terms of design: storage drawer
The storage drawer is always well ventilated and therefore perfect for potatoes, onions etc. The practical storage boxes keep potatoes in the dark and thus ensure ideal storage.
Small detail, but impressive: folded handles ensure maximum comfort when pulling out, even when the storage drawer is fully loaded.

Typically smart: fully integrated dishwasher
You won’t find a fully integrated, large dishwasher in any other modular kitchen – we set the standard here. Or rather: we hide them. Without interrupting the light look of the kitchen, the dishwasher floats above the kitchen floor.

Customised kitchen thanks to flexible pedestal
Sometimes an innovation is particularly valuable when hardly anyone notices it. The height-adjustable base has its platform at the bottom of the floor. Here, its inconspicuous appearance ensures that your kitchen is not only stable, but that any unevenness in the floor is levelled out and you can adjust your working height individually (from 92 – 96 cm). The adjustment tool is included so that you can adjust the height at any time. In short: this pedestal is the foundation of a good kitchen.
Various projects
The vision of life in an old paper mill
There is more behind this kitchen than just a beautiful furnishing concept. This cooking and living area is part of a modern living concept for older people.
New kitchen in an old barn
“When we retire at some point, we would like to live near our sons and their families again,” said Florian’s parents and set about looking for a suitable property with enough space for the idea of multi-generational living. A few years ago, they finally found what they were looking for near Hamburg.
Industrial design in a country house under a reed roof
In a faithfully renovated and listed farmhouse from 1755 with a thatched roof, half-timbering and clay plaster, there is a fairly new minimalist designer kitchen. Does that fit? Yes, it fits, and very well indeed.
